What is Lorit?+

What is Lorit?

Lorit helps coordinate recommendation requests in one place so requesters and recommenders can avoid repeated follow-up emails.

Who is it for?

It supports requesters/students who need letters and recommenders/professors who review requests, upload letters, and mark completion.

For requesters+

What can requesters track?

Requesters can track request status, deadlines, reminders, and whether a recommendation is completed.

Can requesters read uploaded letters?

No. Requesters cannot view uploaded letter contents. They can only see status and completion updates.

How do I create a letter request?

Use Create request, add the recommender email and deadline, then send the request.

What information should I include before sending a request?

Include a clear note, submission details, and any helpful supporting materials.

What happens after I send a request?

The recommender receives a guest workspace link and the request appears on your dashboard.

Can I reuse materials for the same recommender?

Yes. Saved materials for that recommender can be reused across active requests.

How do I track whether a recommender opened, accepted, uploaded, or completed a request?

Open the request detail page to review status, files, reminders, and timeline updates.

What should I do if a deadline is coming up?

Send a reminder if the request is still active and follow up outside Lorit if needed.

Can I cancel, archive, or restore a request?

Use the available request actions. Some actions depend on the current status and edit window.

For recommenders+

Do recommenders need an account?

Invited recommenders can use a guest link without creating an account. They can sign in later to save workspaces on their dashboard.

Can recommenders upload letters privately?

Yes. Recommenders can upload letters in their workspace while keeping letter contents private from requesters.

Can recommenders save a workspace?

Yes. Recommenders can sign in and save invited workspaces so active requests stay available.

What happens if a school requires portal submission?

Recommenders can submit through the external portal and then mark completion outside Lorit.

How do I access my guest workspace?

Use the link sent with the request or reminder email.

Why do I see multiple requests in one workspace?

Requests from the same requester to the same recommender may be grouped together.

How do I upload a completed letter?

Open the guest workspace, choose the request, and upload the completed letter file.

What if I submit the letter outside the platform?

Submit through the external process, then mark the request completed outside Lorit.

Can I decline a request?

Yes. Use the decline action in the guest workspace when you cannot complete a request.

What happens after I complete or decline a request?

The requester can see the updated status, but private letter contents are not shown to them.

Files, privacy, and access+

Who can see requester-uploaded materials?

The requester and the linked recommender workspace can access shared supporting materials.

Who can see recommender-uploaded letters?

Uploaded letters are for recommender submission workflows and are not shown to requesters.

Are recommendation letters shown to requesters?

No. Requesters can track statuses, files, and reminders, but letter contents remain private.

How are files from the requester reused across active requests?

Reusable materials stay associated with the recommender workspace for active requests.

What should I avoid uploading?

Avoid unrelated sensitive data, passwords, and files that are not needed for the request.

Reminders and deadlines+

When should requesters send reminders?

Send reminders when a deadline is near or the request needs follow-up.

What does reminder recommended mean?

It means the request is due soon, due today, or may need attention based on its status.

Are deadlines calendar dates?

Yes. Deadlines are calendar dates and remain active through the selected date.

What happens when a request expires or is completed?

It moves out of active work and appears with the appropriate closed or completed status.

Account and troubleshooting+

How do I change my password?

Open Settings from the sidebar and use the password form.

What should I do if a guest link does not work?

Ask the requester to send a reminder with a fresh guest workspace link.

What should I do if my recommender cannot find the request?

Confirm the recommender email and send a reminder from the request detail page.
